Cannery Beaches
Marina Sur, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, 23453
Location. Location. Location. These small, lesser-known beaches are steps from the entrance to the Cabo San Lucas Marina, and offer an escape from the area’s more popular tourist spots, such as Lover’s Beach and Divorce Beach nearby. By some accounts, Playa Empacadora and the adjacent Playa Coral Negro officially comprise the Cannery Beaches, but other beaches are sometimes included in the group.
The basics
The Cannery Beaches are near downtown Cabo, yet retain a laid-back atmosphere. Calm, shallow waters are ideal for families, and rocky outcrops provide spots for snorkeling. In addition, these smaller beaches are on opposite sides of a peninsula with some of Cabo’s most visited waterside destinations, such as the famous Cabos Arch, where boating, snorkeling, and kayaking tours often go. While these experiences rarely have Cannery Beaches on the official itinerary, they sometimes explore the area near Cabo marina.
Things to know before you go
The Cannery Beaches are ideal for a low-key beach day away from the crowds.
Bring your own snacks, drinks, and shade, as there are few vendors on the beaches.
You can usually rent kayaks and paddleboards from the marina.
How to get there
The Cannery Beaches lie east of the south side of the Cabo San Lucas Marina, making them easily accessible. On foot, head to Marina del Rey at the end of the Boulevard Paseo de la Marina and go down the wooden walkway to the beach. The beaches are well-signposted, and you can easily find them by heading toward the marina and following the coast.
When to get there
These beaches—and Cabo San Lucas—are enjoyable year-round, but some parts of the year, such as May through June, and October to November, sidestep the crowds of peak travel season while still providing good beach weather. August and September can bring unpleasantly hot or rainy days. Mornings tend to have fewer beach-going crowds, while in the evenings you’ll catch glorious Baja sunsets.
Hiking near the Cannery Beaches
Near Playa del Coral Negro and the Cannery Beaches, you can go for a hike. Just south of the entrance to the beaches on Boulevard Paseo de la Marina, you’ll find unofficial trailheads for walking paths across Land’s End. These trails aren’t too long, and reach Mt. Solmar, Lover’s Beach, and Divorce Beach.
