Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Birmingham, West Midlands
One of the UK’s most historically significant botanical gardens, this Birmingham destination has remained intact for nearly 100 years. Spanning 15 acres (6 hectares) and home to more than 10,000 plants spread across a range of micro-climates, the Grade II*-listed landmark is one of the city’s loveliest green spaces, ideal for family outings and contemplative solo walks alike.
The basics
As one of Birmingham’s most treasured green spaces, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens rewards visitors with tranquil surroundings and beautiful floral displays. It’s best to set aside at least a few hours to make the most of its many attractions. Begin in its four glasshouses—the Tropical House, Subtropical House, Mediterranean House, and Arid House—each of which offers a sensory immersion in a different botanical habitat. You can also seek out particular highlights of the gardens, including the bonsai collection and Japanese garden, plus kid-friendly features like its playgrounds and learning centers.
