Batumi Piazza
12 Parnavaz Mepe St, Batumi, GA
Located in Batumi’s historical center, Batumi Piazza features an enormous marble mosaic at its center, fringed by the canopies, dining tables, and chairs of surrounding restaurants. The mystery of why this public square is described as a “piazza” soon becomes clear when looking at the Venetian-inspired architecture that encloses this lively outdoor dining and nightlife spot.
The basics
Batumi Piazza can be easily fitted into a sightseeing itinerary around Batumi center, although it’s not always included in city walking tours. You only need about five minutes to see its statues, the central mosaic, and its architecture, before continuing on to other nearby attractions, such as the Holy Mother Virgin Nativity Cathedral or Argo Cable Car. If you’re not in a hurry, take a seat in the square, order a coffee or drink, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Things to know before you go
The square is free to visit.
Only the southern and eastern entrances are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
A stage for live music is usually set up in the square during summer.
How to get there
Batumi Piazza is located on the eastern side of Batumi’s historical center and is within walking distance of Europe Square, the Neptune Fountain, and Batumi Boulevard. Taxis are the easiest way to reach the square from farther away in the city, although you can take one of the many city buses that stop at Freedom Square and walk over to the piazza from there.
When to get there
Visitors looking to see the square’s mosaic and architecture should go in the morning, when it’s typically quietest: Batumi Piazza tends to fill up with people around midday and stays busy into the evening. However, if you want to people-watch and get a feel for life in Batumi, there’s no better time to come than the evening when the piazza is liveliest.
Best squares and parks in Batumi to visit
Several beautiful European-style squares can be found throughout the center of Batumi and are common sightseeing stops for visitors to the city. Theater Square is especially popular thanks to its gilded Neptune Fountain, while nearby Europe Square has its own mythological statue and interesting architecture. Larger public spaces include Batumi Boulevard along the waterfront and the green 6 May Park around Nuri Lake.
