Through the Pláka

From Syntagma Square walk south down the right-hand side of Filellinon until you see a sign for the Museum of Greek Folk Art, where you turn right.

Kydathinaíon is one of the main Pláka streets, along with Adrianou and Pandrossou. On your left is the Museum of Greek Folk Art, and further along on your right the Hellenic Children's Museum.

Continue on down Kydathinaíon a short way and look on your right for Geronta.

At the far end of Geronta is the Centre for Popular Arts and Traditions, if you wish to make a detour.

Further down Kydathinaíon is the junction with Adrianou, but cross over and walk up Thespidou.

On the right you will find the studio of George Savakis, a Pláka artist who has painted many murals in the local tavernas as well as scenes of Pláka life.

Return to Adrianou and turn left to walk down into the shopping heart of the Pláka. After about 300m and beyond a small crossroads, look on the left for the small stepped street called Mnissikleous. Walk up here and take the first right, Diogenes.

Along Diogenes you will pass the well-known Platanos Taverna on the left, then the Museum of Greek Musical Instruments on the right.

Diogenes brings you out at the Roman Agora. Turn right and walk round here, taking a right turn down Eolou. Pass Adrianou on your right and then take the next left, Pandrossou.

Pandrossou is another of the Pláka's shopping streets. If you turn right here you can walk up to Mitropóleos, but left takes you to the end of the walk in Monastiráki Square.
