Stretching west from Griffith Park in Los Angeles past the Ventura County line, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area embraces 153,000 acres of rugged mountains, steep canyons, rolling woodlands and 50 miles of beach. Within its boundaries are 75,000 acres of city, county, state and federal parklands. Major state parks include Leo Carrillo, Malibu Creek, Point Mugu, Topanga Canyon and Will Rogers; in addition there are state and county beaches and parks from Point Mugu to Santa Monica.
