Covert Park at Mount Bonnell is at 3800 Mount Bonnell Rd. A series of stone stairs leads from the parking area to the top of Mount Bonnell. At an elevation of 775 feet, it's the highest point within Austin city limits. Scenic lookouts at the top provide sweeping views of the downtown skyline, Lake Austin, mansions lining the lake and Austin's surrounding hill country. The forested area that surrounds the overlook are made up of live oak, ash juniper, persimmon and mountain laurel. A gently sloping trail (.32 miles) follows the ridgeline back to the roadway and parking area farther north, offering an alternative route. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
