This property is atop a knoll within what was once Fort McKinley. Built during the Spanish-American War and remained a military base through World War II. Today the main barracks is a luxury hotel. The guest rooms and suites are beautifully designed with have fine linens and furnishings; many have a gas fireplace for added ambience. Access to this island hotel is through Casco Bay Lines (disembark at the Diamond Cove stop) in Portland or Fogg’s Water Taxi. This hotel typically operates between Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day Weekend. Guests may request a "taxi" golf cart shuttle or rent one of the guest bicycles. Smoke free premises. 44 units, some efficiencies. 2 stories, interior corridors. Bath: shower only. Accessibility (Call).

Staff was very accommodating and the facility was beautiful. Breakfast was great. What they don't tell you in their ads is that no cars are allowed. So you have to park in Portland and ferry over to the island. And the ferry only ran once in the morning. So if you did not take the ferry at 8:45, you were stuck on the island until 1:00. In the evening if you didn't catch the ferry at 6:00 you were stuck in Portland until 8:30. We felt these constraints severely limited our time in the city.
