The Citizens Bank Building at 201 Main Ave. is noted among devotees of classic Art Deco architecture. Built 1928-30, this 54-foot tall Indiana limestone structure is believed to be the tallest single-story building in the United States; the wrought-iron work is by the noted artist Samuel Yellen. Inside, the woodwork is hand-carved American walnut, and the 45-foot suspended plaster ceiling has a relief of the Great Seal of West Virginia. Also of interest in nearby Horner is the Central West Virginia Genealogical and Historical Library and Museum, which is open to the public for research; phone (304) 269-7091.
Every Labor Day weekend, the city celebrates Jackson's Mill Jubilee , complete with Civil War re-enactments, heritage exhibits, music, fireworks and arts and crafts vendors.
Nearby Stonewall Resort State Park surrounds the state's second-largest lake. This park offers many recreational opportunities and facilities. For more information phone (304) 269-7400.
