NATIONAL PARKBoise National Forest In south-central Idaho, lakes, abandoned mines and ghost towns amid ponderosa pine and Douglas fir dot the 2,612,000 acres of mountainous terrain that make up the Boise National Forest. Large areas of the forest serve as summer range for big game. Black bears, wolves, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, mule deer and elk inhabit the woods. Upland game birds including chukars, sage grouse, Hungarian partridges and turkeys roam the backcountry.
