National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House
17 Madison St, Rochester, NY
The Rochester house where noted suffragette Susan B. Anthony spent the last 40 years of her life, and where she was arrested in 1872 for voting, is both a national landmark and museum. The well-preserved home and site houses exhibits and artifacts related to her life and work and offers informative tours and interpretive programs.
Visitors can explore the house and museum on a guided docent-led tour, which covers all three stories of Anthony’s historic home. Highlights include the front parlor, where she was arrested in 1872, as well as the back parlor, study, dining room, and bedroom. Photos and other exhibits are available. The Monday Lecture series is held monthly, with guest lecturers speaking on topics inspired by Anthony’s life and work. The museum also hosts various programs for children, scouts, and adults.
The museum is ideal for history fans.
Although reservations are encouraged, walk-ins are welcome.
The first floor of the museum and visitor center are wheelchair-accessible.
There’s a museum shop located in the same building as the visitor center.
