Le Havre Cruise Port (Terminal Croisières Le Havre)

Quai Roger Meunier, Le Havre, Normandy

Set on France’s western coast at the mouth of the English Channel and the Seine River, the Le Havre Cruise Port (Terminal Croisières Le Havre) serves as a popular stop for European cruise liners and is considered the “gateway to Paris.” Once on shore, explore the World War II history of the UNESCO-listed Le Havre and take advantage of the town’s proximity to Normandy.

Popular day trip destinations from Le Havre include Mont St Michel; the World War II battle sites, cemeteries, and D-Day beaches of Normandy; and Paris, City of Light. Caen, Rouen, and Honfleur are other popular cities within an hour’s drive of Le Havre—all popular shore excursion destinations. Some cruisers even opt for full-day trips to Bayeux and Caen or a half-day tour to Giverny to see Claude Monet’s house, workshop, and gardens.

  • Expect most shore excursions to last about 8 hours; tours from the pier to Paris are longer.

  • Most shore excursions include port pickup and drop-off.

  • Le Havre has some interesting highlights of its own, including its numerous shopping districts and historical sites.

  • The La Havre Cruise Port terminal offers tourist information, free Wi-Fi, shops, and restrooms, as well as shuttles into the city center.

Cruise ships dock at the Roger Meunier and Pierre Callet piers. Tram and shuttle services to the city center are available, and taxis are also plentiful on cruise dock days. The train station is about 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) from the Le Havre Cruise Port, and trains depart regularly for Paris; however, shore excursions are generally the most convenient way to visit the City of Light.

The official currency in Le Havre is the euro—US dollars are rarely accepted. French is the official language here, but English is also fairly common in tourist locations. You’ll find free Wi-Fi at the terminal.
