Sandwich

Dexter's Grist Mill, on Main Street, is a restored 1654 gristmill that grinds corn daily. Guides explain the history of the mill and its mechanical operation. The nearby Hoxie House, on Water Street, is a restored 1675 saltbox house. The 1830 First Church of Christ, on SR 130, has a spire designed by noted English architect Christopher Wren.

Shopping

Sandwich offers about a dozen stores, most of which are clumped together near the intersection of Jarves Street and Main Street. In this quaint shopping district you'll find everything from locally produced glass and pottery at the Collections Gallery (23 Sunrise Ln.) to specialty foods and wines from around the world at The Brown Jug (155 Main St.).

If you're antiquing along SR 6A and only have time for one pit stop in town, make it the Sandwich Antiques Center (131 SR 6A), a 6,000-square-foot building housing the wares of more than 80 vendors.
