The Bizz Johnson Trail follows an old branch line of the Southern Pacific Railroad for approximately 26 miles between Susanville and Westwood. Administered by the Bureau of Land Management and Lassen National Forest, the trail is popular with hikers, railroad history buffs and cross-country skiers. The Susanville Depot & Museum, 601 Richmond Rd. at the beginning of the trail, houses historic photographs and railroad memorabilia in a restored 1920s train station.
The Susanville murals, eight on outdoor walls and one indoors, are within a five-block area downtown. Begin a mural tour at the corner of Main and Union streets. Continue west on Main to Roop Street and then turn south; when you reach Cottage Street turn east. The last mural is at the corner of Cottage and Gay streets. The indoor mural is at the corner of Main and S. Lassen streets.
