Another wetland habitat is the 16,000-acre Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area, at the east end of CR 32B. You can either hike this area or view the scenery from a car window courtesy of a loop road; phone (530) 757-2461. The city also offers more than 100 miles of bike paths and more than 500 acres of parks, scenic greenbelts and open recreational space.

The University of California Davis has an enrollment of approximately 30,000 students. Free, 90-minute guided walking tours are given weekdays at 9 and 1 and Saturdays at 11; they depart from the Walter A. Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center. Reservations are required and should be made at least 1 week in advance; phone (530) 752-8111.

The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, on Old Davis Road at Alumni Lane (near the university welcome center), display fine art including works by UC Davis faculty and alumni. Phone (530) 752-8500.

The Davis Farmers Market is held Saturday mornings 8-1, year-round. On Wednesdays from 4:30-8:30, mid-March to late October, a festival atmosphere prevails at “Picnic in the Park.” The event features international food vendors, a wine and beer garden, live performances from local musicians, a carousel, a portable fountain and play areas for children. To get to the market from I-80, take the Downtown Davis exit to Richards Boulevard, turn left on 1st Street, then turn right on C Street; the market is between 4th and 5th streets.
