San Jose del Cabo Church (Parroquia San José)

Located in the heart of the old town, San Jose del Cabo Church (Parroquia San José) was founded by Jesuits in 1730. This iconic Catholic church, with brilliant white bell towers and a striking interior, pays homage to Jesuit priest Nicolas Tamaral, who was martyred on the site where the building now stands.
Those interested in the history of San Jose del Cabo Church can tour the church to learn about the destruction that took place during a major hurricane in the early 1900s (the rebuilding of the church was not completed until 1940) and see what remains of the original walls, mosaics, and facade. Worshippers and visitors can also attend Mass services, which take place daily.
Mass is said in Spanish except for Sundays at noon, when it is said in both English and Spanish.
A stop at the church (without Mass) takes about 10 to 25 minutes.
There are plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops in the main square where the church is located.
Mission of San Jose del Cabo Church is located in San Jose del Cabo’s main square, at the corner of Hidalgo and Zaragoza streets. It’s about 20 minutes by car from the Los Cabos International Airport and 10 minutes from the town’s hotel zone; buses also run from the hotel strip to downtown.
Mass takes place at Mission of San Jose del Cabo Church Monday through Friday at 7pm, Saturdays at 7:30pm, and Sundays at 7am, 10am, 12pm (in English), 6pm, and 7:30pm. During Sunday Mass, the church can be crowded with both locals and tourists. Overall, the busy season in San Jose del Cabo is from December to April, which includes the Christmas and Easter holidays, so expect more visitors then as well.
Behind the town’s historic main square and Mission of San Jose del Cabo is the Los Cabos art district. Considered the town’s cultural center, this area boasts fine-art galleries with original paintings, sculptures, photography, prints, and jewelry made by local and international artists. Its Art Walk takes place on Thursdays, from 5pm to 9pm.
