Molinière Underwater Sculpture Park

2nd Ave, St. George's, Grenada

Off the coast of Grenada, travelers will find a unique community below the surface—the Molinière Underwater Sculpture Park. The more than 100 works by Jason deCaires Taylor cover over 8,600 square feet (800 square meters) of the ocean floor, and are accessible by scuba diving, snorkeling, and glass-bottom boat rides. The park draws divers and snorkelers away from the nearby fragile reefs and serves as a safe base for marine life.

Head down to depths of 16 to 26 feet (5 to 8 meters) to explore the Molinière Underwater Sculpture Park. On a guided tour departing from St. Georges or Grand Anse, you’ll see celebrated works like Vicissitudes, which features a ring of children holding hands, and The Lost Correspondent, which depicts a man sitting at a desk with his typewriter. The most recent addition, The Coral Carnival, draws inspiration from Grenada’s annual Spicemas, with a procession of a range of symbolic carnival characters.

  • Some of the sculpture bases include holes for marine life, such as octopuses and lobsters.

  • The park is suitable for snorkelers of all levels, including beginners.

  • Avoid touching the sculptures, so as to not disrupt the habitat.

The sculpture park is located off the coast of Grenada’s Molinière Point, which you can reach via taxi, bus, or private car. It’s about a 10-minute drive from St. George’s and 30 minutes from Grand Anse. Some guided tours provide round-trip transportation to/from area hotels and the cruise ship port.

Snowbirds and tourists tend to flock to Grenada from January through April. So if you want to avoid the crowds, visit in December, which is between the end of the island’s rainy season and the start of peak season. During the summer and fall, there can be a threat of hurricanes, so consider getting travel insurance if you’re traveling during this time.

Often combined with a visit to the sculpture park, Flamingo Bay is another popular snorkel and dive site that’s named after not the bird, but the flamingo tongue snail—an orange-and-yellow-spotted sea creature. Here, you can explore the sheltered bay and its diverse aquatic life, including the elusive snail.
