POINT OF INTEREST

Kusadasi Shopping Center (Kusadasi AVM)

Yavansu Yolu Cd. 8/7 G-1, Kuşadası, Turkey

An open-air shopping mall and entertainment venue with tinkling fountains and palm-fringed plazas, Kusadasi Shopping Center (Kusadasi AVM) is a stylish but affordable choice for a spot of retail therapy. Branded stores sell good-quality products that run from ceramics to fashion, while food options include Starbucks, Pizza Hut, and Turkish chains.

Besides eating, shopping, and browsing, Kusadasi Shopping Center has a couple of options for family fun: the Mini City kids’ play zone and the Strike bowling alley. The Amfi Tiyatro performance venue showcases homegrown talent on weekends during the July and August peak.

However, most international travelers are here to shop reasonably priced fashion, homewares, and cosmetics from brands including Pierre Cardin, Mango, and Yves Rocher. Self-caterers also come to stock up at the Migros supermarket.

  • Kusadasi Shopping Center is a good option for shoppers who prize durability over affordability.

  • This is a mall, not a market, and haggling is neither required nor effective.

  • Flat surfaces make the mall stroller-friendly, but Kusadasi is not a great choice for travelers who rely on wheelchairs.

Kusadasi AVM lies about a 1-mile (1.5-kilometer) drive inland from Long Beach (Uzun Plaj) in the south of town. The 272 and 403 buses run from the main Kusadasi bus terminal along the D515 highway, stopping a few minutes’ walk from the mall. However, most travelers opt to self-drive, take a taxi, join a tour, or book a rideshare.

Kusadasi Shopping Center is open every day of the week, from morning until late, although individual stores and eateries operate their own hours. It’s generally liveliest in the late afternoon and quietest either first thing in the morning or late at night.

As a popular cruise destination—it’s the port for Ephesus—Kusadasi offers a wide range of souvenir shopping options. The Scala Nuova Village in the cruise port has well-made goods at inflated prices; lively, chaotic Kusadasi Market serves up shoddy fakes with a side of banter and impressive haggling skills. If you’re planning to buy a carpet, research ahead of time: Factories that offer demonstrations rarely have the best prices.
