Honeymoon Beach
Salomon Bay Road, Caneel Bay, St. John
Located on the northwest shore of St. John and part of the Virgin Islands National Park, Honeymoon Beach is an idyllic tropical paradise of white sand, palm trees, and clear shallow waters. A concession offers cabana and chair rentals, amenities, and food and drinks, making for an easy and relaxing day on the beach.
You can relax, sunbathe, and soak up scenic views on Honeymoon Beach. More active visitors can play beach games, swim, or snorkel in calm waters. For the best snorkeling, head to the west side of the beach and the patch of reef between Honeymoon Beach and Salomon Beach, though there is also a small reef on the east side of the beach. Visit the beach by hiking in, taking a paid shuttle, or opt for a boat charter for easy access.
The hiking trail to Honeymoon Beach is rocky, so wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
Amenities include restrooms, showers, food, drinks, a shop, and beach games. The beach club also offers different packages including rentals and the shuttle in.
Watch out for boaters when you’re in the water, as the area can get busy with boat traffic.
Watersport rentals are no longer offered on the beach, so bring your own snorkeling gear.
There is another Honeymoon Beach on Water Island south of St. Thomas.
Honeymoon Beach is on the northwest shore of St. John. Park at the Cruz Bay Visitor Center and take the Lind Point Trail, or park at the closed Caneel Bay Resort and take a paid shuttle in. The beach is also accessible by boat; many boat charters include a stop here.
Visit early in the morning to beat the crowds, especially on weekends. Boat charters often stop here during midday. Visit between November and June for the nicest weather, though expect larger crowds during the peak season between December and April. Hurricane season runs from July through November.
Located off St. Thomas is a second Honeymoon Beach in the US Virgin Islands. Situated on Water Island, just south of St. Thomas, the other Honeymoon Beach also offers an idyllic tropical escape and is reachable by ferry or boat charter. Visitors with access to a boat or private boat charter can access both Honeymoon Beaches in one day.
