Bok Tower Gardens, 3 mi. n. off CR 17A (Burns Ave.) at 1151 Tower Blvd., consists of 250 acres with Olmsted-designed gardens, a 205-foot marble and coquina bell tower and Pinewood Estate, a Mediterranean-style mansion. One of Florida's oldest attractions, the tower and gardens were dedicated to the American people in 1929 by President Calvin Coolidge on behalf of founder Edward Bok, a Dutch immigrant. New gardens include a children's garden and a Florida wild garden and bog. Other features include daily concerts from the 60-bell carillon, a nature observatory and Pine Ridge Nature Preserve Trail. The visitor center presents art exhibits, an orientation film and exhibits about the Bok legacy, the carillon, and endangered plants and animals found on the property. Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.
