Washington Oaks Gardens State Park
6400 N. Oceanshore Blvd., Palm Coast, FL, 32137
Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, 6400 N. Oceanshore Blvd., originally was part of Bella Vista Plantation owned by Gen. Joseph Hernandez, a militia general who commanded troops during the Second Seminole War. Extending from the Atlantic Ocean to the Matanzas River, the park covers more than 400 acres of Florida coastal scenery. Included are scenic tidal marshes, a scrub community, a beach and a hammock. Coquina rock outcroppings worn into unusual shapes by the sea give the beach area an unearthly appearance. Many species of shorebirds and marine and forest animals make their home in the park. Formal gardens contain exotic plants from around the world; a history of the area is presented at the Young House Visitor Center. Guided walks are provided by request. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
