Chewalla Lake Hiking Trail offers nearly 4.5 miles of primitive and fairly difficult hiking. The trail takes a southern route from the recreation area and circles the lake to a point on the northeast side, where it terminates at Johnston Mill Pond. Camping, bass fishing (state license required) and picnic areas are available at 260-acre Chewalla Lake. Within the forest are more than 40 man-made lakes.
