Fourteen miles of hiking trails traverse the burial mounds and offer exhibits and river views. A 1-mile raised boardwalk allows physically impaired visitors to access the site's wetland environment. To tour all trails allow 6-8 hours. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Grounds daily dawn-dusk. Visitor center daily 8-6, Memorial Day-Labor Day; daily 8-5, day after Labor Day to mid-Oct.; daily 8-4:30, early Apr.-day before Memorial Day; daily 8:30-4:30, rest of year. Visitor center closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Ranger talks are given daily, mid-June through Labor Day; phone ahead. Special events and educational programs are held throughout the year.
