The Flat Tops, Eagles Nest, Hunter-Fryingpan, Collegiate Peaks, Holy Cross, Ptarmigan Peak, Raggeds and Maroon Bells-Snowmass wildernesses provide opportunities for pack trips, backpacking and mountain climbing. Fishing and big-game hunting also are popular. The forest is home to one of the world's largest elk herds. Camping is available at a number of areas throughout the forest. Some of the world's best-known winter sports areas are found at Aspen, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Vail.
