Mendocino National Forest

Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness at the north end of the forest and Snow Mountain Wilderness in the south provide peaceful settings for horseback riding and hiking. Wilderness entry permits are not required, but users should sign the registry at trailheads.

The Red Bluff Recreation Area, 488 acres adjacent to the Sacramento River 2 miles from Red Bluff, has such diverse habitats as forests, wetlands and woodlands. In addition to hiking trails and summer fishing, the area also is known for its bird-watching opportunities. The Sacramento River Discovery Center , 1000 Sale Ln. in Red Bluff, has interpretive displays about the river's watershed; phone (530) 527-1196.
