Big game animals can be seen in roadside meadows and throughout the forest. Fishing can be enjoyed at several lakes. Recreational opportunities within the national forest include camping, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing.
The Kaibab Plateau-North Rim Scenic Byway has been described as the most beautiful 42 miles in the United States. The scenic parkway begins at Jacob Lake and winds through dense forests and alpine meadows to culminate at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon; the road is closed mid-October through May.
