Bighorn National Forest

Cloud Peak is the highest peak within the forest. Motorists pulling trailers should use caution on US 14/14A.

Backpacking and saddle and pack trips can be taken into 189,039-acre Cloud Peak Wilderness; horse and foot trails begin at trail heads accessible via gravel roads off US 14 and US 16. This scenic area has miles of streams and more than 200 lakes containing brook, cutthroat, golden and rainbow trout. Hunters come in search of deer and elk.

Throughout the forest are 30 campgrounds, 10 picnic grounds and a good trail network, including the Bucking Mule Falls National Recreation Trail. Downhill skiing is available east of Worland (west of Buffalo); cross-country skiing can be pursued in all sections of the forest. Mountain climbing and snowmobiling also are popular.

Shell Falls Wayside Visitor Center is on US 14, 5 miles west of Burgess Junction. The Center offers nature trails, exhibits, maps and other information about the forest, recreational activities and nearby communities; open daily 9:30-5, Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
