Eleven miles southwest of town, Father DeSmet Monument designates the site where the first Catholic Mass in Wyoming was held in 1840.
Upper Green River Rendezvous National Historic Landmark is 6 miles west of Pinedale on US 191. Native Americans from throughout the West and such legendary mountain men as Jim Bridger and William Sublette gathered each year during the 1830s to meet the supply caravans from St. Louis and barter, trade for furs and cavort.
