Baileys Harbor

A half-mile north at 8166 SR 57, the Ridges Sanctuary offers hiking trails in a natural wildlife area where wildflowers and species of native orchids can be seen from May to September. Exhibits at the Cook-Albert Fuller Center highlight the local fauna and flora. Tours are conducted during the summer and early fall and guided snowshoe hikes take place in January and February; phone (920) 839-2802.

Nearby recreational activities include salmon and trout fishing, bicycling, sea kayaking, windsurfing, kite boarding, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. The Cana Island Lighthouse, about 4 miles northeast of Baileys Harbor via CR Q to 8800 E. Cana Island Rd., was built in 1869. Stroll through the keepers' house, climb the lighthouse tower (height and age restrictions apply) and explore the rocky shore which surrounds this glorious island. Keeper's house and tower climb $12; $9 (ages 5-17). Keeper's house only $7; $4 (ages 5-17). Daily 10-5, early May-late Oct. Last tower climb departs 30 minutes before closing. Phone (920) 743-5958.
