The Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts, 300 N. Elm St., features Broadway Series shows and Greensboro Symphony concerts.
One notable Greensboro native was William Sydney Porter (O. Henry), whose short stories are considered American classics.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers play class A minor league baseball at First National Bank Field, 408 Bellemeade St., April through September; phone (336) 268-2255. They are a farm team for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Greensboro Swarm play basketball with the NBA G League at The Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The Carolina Cobras (2018 NAL champs) play indoor arena football April through August as part of the National Arena League at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The Wyndham Championship, since 1938, is one of the oldest tournaments on the PGA Tour. It is held in August at the Sedgefield Country Club.

Downtown Greensboro has a hub of local shops including antiques, art, books, clothing, eateries and home furnishings. Four Seasons Town Centre, off I-40 at Pinecroft Rd. and Koury Blvd., has more than 100 stores, including Dillard's, H&M and JCPenney. Among the more than 100 stores at Friendly Center, Green Valley Rd. and W. Friendly Ave., are Belk, Macy's and Sears. The Shops at Friendly Center, Hobbs Rd. and W. Friendly Ave., include Chico's, J. Crew and Talbots.
