On select Saturdays from May through October, admire the Art in the Park displays on the American Legion grounds or head over to Memorial Park and groove to the tunes during a Sunday Concert in the Park. Specialty shops brimming with antiques, art and crafts await those in search of souvenirs.

Spreading over some 8,000 acres along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Moses H. Cone and Julian Price memorial parks boast miles of horseback riding and hiking trails. Bass Lake, half a mile south on US 221, is a walking, jogging and horseback riding hot spot. If climbing exhilarates you, check out Grandfather Mountain in nearby Linville just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
