The Boy in Blue Civil War Veterans' Memorial stands at the intersection of S. Broad, Lincoln and Grove streets in historic Lincoln Park. The statue of a Union infantry soldier originally stood atop a cast-iron basin rising from an octagonal-shaped pool. Although the park was named after the 16th president, the memorial depicted an ordinary soldier who fought to preserve the American Union and its ideal that “all men are created equal.”
Vandalism, exposure to the elements and a windstorm that toppled the figure all took their toll, and by 1927 the statue and fountain had been removed from the park. But thanks to the dedicated efforts of a group of local citizens, funds were raised for the re-creation of a new memorial, which was dedicated in May 2015.
