A garden named in Du Bois' honor is at the Housatonic River Walk. The handiwork of more than 2,000 volunteers, the trail is lined by a variety of plants and trees, including Japanese maples, mountain laurel, sycamores, sumac and American elms. Benches, historical structures and observation areas also are scattered along the .5-mile pedestrian route. The path—designated a national recreation trail in 2009—abuts the Housatonic River's west bank between Cottage and Bridge streets downtown. Canoe launches are near Bridge Street and off Brookside Road.
