The Tammany Trace, a 31-mile-long rail-to-trail conversion, begins in Covington and continues through Abita Springs, Mandeville, Lacombe and Slidell. The recreational corridor's trailhead is located downtown at 419 N. New Hampshire St. and includes a visitor center with historical exhibits, a small movie theater, and an amphitheater where free evening concerts take place on Thursdays in April and October. March through October, the free event Concerts at the Landing is held on Columbia Street the third Friday of every month.
Shopping
Covington’s compact historic district nestles between two rivers and languishes under stately oaks. Late 19th- and early 20th-century buildings contain shops with home decor, apparel, antiques and artwork having a slightly upscale bent. A fixture in downtown Covington, the H.J. Smith & Sons General Store has operated continuously since 1876.
