DESTINATION

Lincoln

Before the Civil War, the town of Lincoln absorbed a smaller, older settlement known as Postville, which had served as the county seat in the 1840s. It was in the Postville Courthouse that Abraham Lincoln often handled civil cases. The Postville Courthouse State Historic Site at 914 5th St. features a replica of that building constructed where the original once stood; phone (217) 732-8687.

Measuring 40 feet long and 24 feet tall, the Railsplitter Covered Wagon, at the junction of 5th Street and Route 66, is said to be the world's largest. It features a sculpture of Abe Lincoln sitting in the front seat reading a 12-foot-tall law book weighing 350 pounds.
