A great way to experience the refuge is via Laurel Hill Wildlife Drive, 1 mile east of Port Wentworth off North Coastal Highway/US 17. This scenic drive follows 4 miles of earthen dikes through freshwater pools; fishing from the dike banks is permissible year-round. Fishing elsewhere is permitted on a seasonal basis, as is hunting waterfowl, turkeys, deer and feral hogs. Defined time periods are set aside for archery and gun hunts. For 2 days in November, several areas are specifically designated for use by wheelchair-dependent hunters.
