Free ferry service is available between Tadoussac and Baie-Ste-Catherine; phone (418) 235-4395 or (877) 787-7483. Expeditions to watch whales that travel the St. Lawrence to the mouth of the Saguenay to feed from May to October can be arranged in Tadoussac and Les Bergeronnes, 22 kilometres (14 mi.) northeast. It is often very cold in the middle of the St. Lawrence, which is 16 kilometres (10 mi.) wide at this point, so warm clothing and dressing in layers is advisable. Although whales usually are sighted on trips, there is no guarantee they will be.
Some companies make pickups at the north end of the Saguenay at Baie-Ste-Catherine as well as at Tadoussac. Companies providing whale-watching cruises are Croisières AML, (800) 563-4643 or (800) 694-5489, and Otis Excursions Inc. (800) 563-4643.
