Tofino

Near Clayoquot Sound and the northern end of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, the town's shoreline and waters are popular with scuba divers and beachcombers. In the spring whales often can be seen migrating along the coast. The Whale Centre and Museum, 411 Campbell St., exhibits scientific and artistic displays, photographs and artifacts depicting past and present whale encounters.

Several companies, including Adventure Tofino Wildlife Tours, (250) 725-2895; Remote Passages Marine Excursions, (250) 725-3330; and The Whale Centre, (250) 725-2132, offer whale-watching excursions on Clayoquot Sound. Tours lasting up to 3 hours may afford sightings of sea lions, porpoises and eagles. Combination whale-watching and hot springs cruises that last approximately 6.5 hours also are available.
