From Roseburg, a quaint town near 20-plus wineries, drive SR 138 deep into the emerald mountains of the Umpqua National Forest, a wonderland of rushing mountain rivers and calm, cool lakes. Basalt cliffs and volcanic rock formations embrace the route, which ends near Crater Lake.

The Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway (SR 138) follows the North Umpqua and Clearwater rivers, bisecting the Umpqua National Forest, an area rife with mountains, thundering waterfalls and dramatic cliffs. Hikers, cross-country skiers and snowmobilers traverse its many trails. Launch a boat, pitch a tent or cast for trout at Diamond Lake, or simply gaze at nearby Mt. Bailey.
