SCENIC BYWAY

Copper Country Trail Scenic Byway

45.6 miles: 0 hours, 56 minutes

Copper Country Trail (US 41) passes through wooded Keweenaw National Historical Park and runs the length of Keweenaw Peninsula, the northernmost part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula along Lake Superior; its shore is dotted with lighthouses. You’ll see remnants of the area’s copper mining legacy. Autumn is an ideal time for the drive. Watch for deer and black bears.

The Copper County Trail Scenic Byway passes through several small historic towns, but the scenery for much of the route is a pine and hardwood forest hugging the two-lane road. At some points the trees form a canopy overhead. Quincy Mine Hoist—a cool photo shot—stands just off the road, reminding you this was once Copper Country. Toward the end of the drive, pretty Lake Medora comes into view.
