SCENIC BYWAY

Big Bend National Scenic Byway

More than 200 miles long, the Big Bend National Scenic Byway is comprised of two distinct trails—the Forest Trail and the Coastal Trail. From Apalachicola to Tallahassee to St. George Island, the route, US 98/SR 300/US 319/CR 299/CR 375/SR 20/CR 2203/SR 267/CR 59, travels through state and national forests, wildlife refuges and along the Gulf of Mexico coast.

Nine state parks and three state forests are connected along the Florida panhandle’s Big Bend National Scenic Byway. The Forest Trail features rolling hills, grasslands, hardwood hammocks, pine forests and wetlands, while the Coastal Trail scenery includes bays, beaches, salt marshes and sand dunes. If you’re lucky, you may catch sight of the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.
