Tahquitz Canyon Visitor Center is at 500 W. Mesquite Rd. The visitor center contains exhibits and a 15-minute video explaining the Cahuilla tribe’s heritage. The canyon is accessible by signing up for a ranger-led or self-guiding hike along Tahquitz Canyon Trail, a 1.8-mile looping trail leading to Tahquitz Falls, a seasonal 60-foot waterfall. Note: Confirm the hike times by phone before arriving at the center, even if you have reservations. Sturdy footwear, a hat or cap for shade, drinking water and sunblock are suggested, particularly in summer when temperatures exceed 100 F. There is no water along the trail, nor are there any rest rooms. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours, 30 minutes minimum.
