Peaks of Otter Visitor Center, at Milepost 85.6, 10 mi. n.w. of Bedford, Va., houses exhibits about forest ecology and the history of the Peaks of Otter area. Nearby is an 1830s cabin that sheltered early travelers. A 1930s-era historic farm offers living-history demonstrations. Stop by the Nature Center to learn about the plants and animals of the Blue Ridge. Walking trails to the summit of Sharp Top Mountain and around Johnson Farm and Abbott Lake are available. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
