Heartland of America Museum is off I-40 exit 84 westbound or exit 82 eastbound at 1600 S. Frontage Rd. The museum, which features a wide variety of items from the late 19th century through the middle of the 20th, houses displays about agriculture, Route 66, vintage cars and tractors, Native Americans and the petroleum industry. Areas of the museum re-create a general store, a pharmacy, a funeral home and a doctor's office while outside the main building stands a replica of a blacksmith shop and a little redbrick schoolhouse. An exhibit about famous Oklahomans describes Weatherford native, astronaut Thomas P. Stafford. An exterior feature is an original, refurbished Route 66 diner, which in its heyday is said to have had a few famous names drop in, including Elvis Presley. Rotating exhibits also are offered. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 45 minutes minimum.
