Escalante Petrified Forest State Park

Escalante Petrified Forest State Park is 1 mi. w. on SR 12, then .5 mi. on an unnamed road, following signs. The 1,784-acre park contains colorful mineralized wood and fossilized logs. The petrified forest is accessed by a 1.5-mile moderate to strenuous hiking trail. A visitor center has specimens of petrified wood and dinosaur fossils on display. Wide Hollow Reservoir, a freshwater lake, provides many recreational opportunities. A self-guiding nature trail leads through a section of the reserve. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
