Hurricane Ridge, in Olympic National Park, can be reached from Port Angeles via Hurricane Ridge Rd., a roadway with a 7-percent grade. More than 5,200 feet above sea level, Hurricane Ridge features a visitor center from which there are striking views of the Olympic Mountains. Nature trails wind through the meadows, where wildflowers bloom from late June through October, and lead to views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island. A narrow gravel road leads 8 miles east along the crest to Obstruction Peak. Naturalist programs are conducted daily from late June through Labor Day. During the ski season rentals and rope tow service are available on weekends (weather permitting). The winter use area also provides cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. Recreational activities are permitted.
