Our first floor room was not clean, especially the bathroom. The tub was so bad we did not shower in it. The small sink and fixture appeared relatively new, and worked well. The hall carpet, and also the breakfast room carpet appeared to have had bleach spilled on it in the past. Several places were eaten away down to the carpet backing. The bathtub was awful, dirty, paint drops, chipped places, black mold on several places of caulking. We needed a noon checkout for a mid-afternoon memorial service, but were not allowed. For that reason we accepted their offer for a second night at the same (relatively low) rate. We did not want the hassle of moving, so we stayed in the same room. The hotel is well located, near Falls Park and walking streets downtown. That is why we chose it. We had also stayed several nights recently in Quality Inns in upstate New York, which were very good. But this one is in desparate need of cleaning and updating. Huge drying fans were left in the hallways, although they were not running. Security was inadequate because the outside door near the elevators did not close and latch automatically. It hit the jam and did not latch, so it opened from the parking lot without a key, It was that way every time I used it even after dark. The parking lot had huge potholes which were almost impossible to avoid. Water from a short rainstorm covered large portions of the parking lot, making the potholes impossible to see or avoid. I am truly surprised that Quality Inns allows this place to represent their brand. It is not representing Quality Inns or Choice Hotels well at all. It ranks as the worst maintained hotel I've ever stayed in. I've traveled extensively in all 50 States, and 85 foreign countries in my 84 years. Staff was friendly enough, but seemed unable to make a decision about a late checkout. And later said "they" did not approve even one hour later to 12:00 noon. I would never stay in this hotel again, and it colors my confidence in other Quality Inn and Suites. If there is any quality assurance at all in QI & S, this hotel should be inspected immediately, based on conditions in room 106. I sincerely hope this is an instance where some hardworking entrepreneur is working to upgrade and reinvigorate this facility to add significant value. It would be a great place to stay if cleaned and well maintained.

Doors to the stairs wouldn't close because they don't fit the frame, on multiple floors.
