Take The Kids Children's Athens |
Love Affair
Greeks love children. They are indulgent towards them and if a child is behaving a little badly, they accept that this is
the way children sometimes are. They seldom scold children, and if you are seen to scold your child, they will make no comment
but will inwardly disapprove. Don't be embarrassed if your child is behaving badly, as it is more likely to be greeted with
a smile than a frown of disapproval.
Part of the Family As in most Mediterranean countries, children are part of the family and will go with their parents - and grandparents and cousins - to eat in the evening. Don't be afraid to take your child into a restaurant, no matter how smart. And don't be surprised to see Greek children out late at night. Do the same with your child, but adopt the Greek habit and have an afternoon rest. Amusement Parks and Playgrounds Mobile amusement parks may pop up anywhere in Athens at any time, so keep a look out, ask around, or buy one of the city's listings magazines for current information. Summer usually sees outdoor cinemas appearing in parks and on waste land too. Take a trip out to the beach suburb of Glyfada for more permanent playgrounds. There is also one in the National Gardens, and in the grounds of Lykabettos Hill, near the Gennadios Library. |
