For the Greek alphabet. The Greek language can look daunting to the visitor, and certainly sounds it because the Greeks speak with a machine-gun rapidity. Although transliterations vary, learning the alphabet will help with road signs and bus destinations, as romanisations will vary, but not a great deal. It is also worth trying to learn a few basic courtesy phrases; the Greeks themselves know how difficult their language is and appreciate the visitor's attempts to learn it.
