Sussex, located at the juncture of the Fundy Coastal Scenic Drive and the River Valley Scenic Drive in the heart of Kings County, is known for its covered bridges. Covered to protect flooring and timbers from the effects of sun and rain, there are 16 bridges throughout the county, more than half of them within 12 kilometres (7 mi.) of town. Oldfield, a bridge spanning Smiths Creek, is depicted on a commemorative 25-cent coin issued in 1992.

NATIONAL PARKCape Breton Highlands National Park Cape Breton Highlands National Park has entrances on the Cabot Trail 5 kilometres (3 mi.) northeast of Chéticamp on the west side of the island and at Ingonish Beach on the east. The park is in the northern part of Cape Breton Island. Bounded on the west by the Gulf of St. Lawrence and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, the park protects 950 square kilometres (366 sq. mi.) of highlands and coastal wilderness. NATIONAL PARKForillon National Park Forillon National Park (Parc national Forillon) encompasses 244 square kilometres (95 sq. mi.) on the northeast tip of the Gaspé Peninsula and is accessible from Gaspé via Hwy. 132 E.
