Exotic Garden of Èze (Jardin Exotique d’Èze)
20 Rue du Château, Éze, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, 06360
Wander amidst the picturesque splendor of a ruined chateau at one of the French Riviera’s top botanical gardens, the Exotic Garden of Eze (Jardin Exotique d’Eze). Poised 1,408 feet (429 meters) above the sea, the garden’s views overlooking the Mediterrean are as much of a draw as its many succulents, cacti, and other plant species.
The Basics
Built following the end of World War II by the town’s mayor, André Gianton, and Jean Gastaud, who constructed nearby Monaco’s botanic garden, the Exotic Garden of Eze remains a popular sightseeing stop along the French Riviera. Walk the paths to see flowering succulents and columnar cactus, linger in the zen garden area, and take a seat on a sun lounger as you gaze out on the garden’s photo-ready views.
Book your ticket to the Exotic Garden of Eze online in advance of your visit to make the most of your time at the hilltop location.
Things to Know Before You Go
Due to its steep slopes and many steps, the garden is not accessible to those with limited mobility or using strollers.
Dogs are allowed in the garden, provided they are kept on a leash.
Children age 12 and under visit for free.
Sculptures by contemporary French artist Jean-Philippe Richard are located throughout the garden.
How to Get There
The Exotic Garden of Eze is about a 5–10 minute’s walk from the town’s main bus station. If traveling from other nearby Riviera highlights, such as Nice and Monaco, take a car or taxi to the garden.
When to Get There
The garden opens daily at 9am, with closing times that vary throughout the year. From January–March and November–December, the garden closes at 4:30pm; from April–June and in October, it closes at 6:30pm; and from July–September, it closes at 7:30pm. The garden is particularly busy during the summer months—to avoid the mid-afternoon sun and crowds of visitors, explore early in the morning or during the off-season.
Botanical Highlights at the Garden
Numerous succulents, cacti, and aloes take center stage at the Exotic Garden of Eze. Its south-facing side features plants from desert climates, while its north-facing side includes native Mediterranean plants. Read the signs posted throughout the garden for more information about the species on display.
